Not everyone knows this, but we celebrate Chanukah...Hanukkah...however you spell it I'm not quite sure :) But Jason's family is of Jewish heritage so its been fun to be able to celebrate both Jewish and Christian holidays with our boys between our two families. I'm pretty sure that most people either know about or have a general idea of what Chanukah is. But for those who have NO CLUE about what I am even talking about, here's a little rundown from my pal Google: (According to google, he says that I've romanized the spelling by using the "CH"...so the old skool Hebrew way is to spell it as it is below:
Hanukkah (Hebrew: חֲנֻכָּה, Tiberian: Ḥănukkāh, usually spelled חנוכה pronounced [χanuˈka] in Modern Hebrew, also romanized as Chanukah, Chanukkah, or Chanuka), also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar.
The festival is observed by the kindling of the lights of a unique candelabrum, the nine-branched Menorah or Hanukiah, one additional light on each night of the holiday, progressing to eight on the final night. The typical Menorah consists of eight branches with an additional raised branch. The extra light is called a shamash (Hebrew: שמש, "attendant" or "sexton")[1] and is given a distinct location, usually above or below the rest. The purpose of the shamash is to have a light available for use, as using the Hanukkah lights themselves is forbidden.
Hanukkah rituals:
Hanukkah is celebrated by a series of rituals that are performed every day throughout the 8-day holiday, some are family-based and others communal. There are special additions to the daily prayer service, and a section is added to the blessing after meals. Hanukkah is not a "Sabbath-like" holiday, and there is no obligation to refrain from activities that are forbidden on the Sabbath, as specified in the Shulkhan Arukh.[29] Adherents go to work as usual, but may leave early in order to be home to kindle the lights at nightfall. There is no religious reason for schools to be closed, although, in Israel, schools close from the second day for the whole week of Hanukkah. Many families exchange small gifts each night, such as books or games. Fried foods are eaten to commemorate the importance of oil during the celebration of Hanukkah.
[2]
There is also a dreidel game that is played and Hanukkah gelt is used as the reward...it is usually used as chocolate money, but if you're lucky, that gelt will be REAL money :) So there you have it. If you want 8 days of extra presents and a belly-ful of delicious Jewish food, you could always incorporate Hanukkah into your holiday festivities...just don't use the Hanukkah candles outside of the lighting of the menorah :)
We, however, don't do the 8 days of gift giving. We just do one celebration with Jason's family and the kids get gifts and that's that. We figure that since they also get CHRISTmas presents, doing the additional 8 days of gifts would be overboard. We do light our own lights on our menorah and do the Jewish prayer when they are being lit, and here is an example of the prayer that is said while doing this:

English:
We light these lights for the miracles and the wonders, for the redemption and the battles that you made for our forefathers, in those days at this season, through your holy priests. During all eight days of Hanukkah these lights are sacred, and we are not permitted to make ordinary use of them except for to look at them in order to express thanks and praise to Your great Name for Your miracles, Your wonders and Your salvations.
Happiest of holidays in whatever you and your family celebrate!

12 years of mostly marital bliss~
So Jason and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary but have known eachother for 17 years. That's pretty much half of my life that my other half has been by my side! Like all blissful marriages, they take a lot of work and it ain't always peachy! But I'm glad we have stuck it out and know that through it all we are soulmates, meant for eachother, and there's nobody else in this world I'd rather travel down that road with in life than him! I just hope he feels the same way about me, teehee ;D
Our anniversary falls right smack-dab in the middle of the holidays so its a lot of fun to be able to be around all of the pretty Christmas lights and decorations! It's definitely a busy time for us as we still have youngins that we have to shop for, so we've made it easy on ourselves and decided that for our anniversary, we get a night to ourselves and then spend the next day, ALL day, shopping and running around which feels like no end in sight. But it's SO much fun, I love it!! And my mom is such an angel, always willing to help us out with the kids, so she spends the night and next day with them so we can get our Santa groove on ;)
Out to dinner!
We ate at the Last Samurai for teppan-style dining and sushi, then stayed at the Hilton hotel...the room we stayed in hadn't been updated for a while, but it was a suite and I also had some fun taking pics of myself in the funky-lighted bathroom :)
We bought a $7...yes, SEVEN DOLLAR quart of haagen dazs ice cream to take up to the room and then attempted to watch a movie, *wink wink
Here's a view from our room~ not necessarily a view to a kill, but it'll do :)

So here's to 12 years of marriage and I look forward to 12 more years to come! I love you Jason!
The Charlie Brown tree...
So our neighborhood has had its ups and downs with the economy and we have a lot of empty lots~ or should I say DID have a lot of empty lots...thanks to a specific builder, they have come into our 'hood and taken over the task of doing all of the dirty work of building houses, so its definitely nice to get rid of the endless sea of weeds we've been living around for the past 3 1/2 years!
Needless to say, there has been some distributing of tree seeds with the wind we get out here and it looks like one was lucky enough to take root and has started to grow upright, but blended in all too well with the weeds that surrounded it. That is until they started digging the corner lot which this humble little tree sits, and it seems they were kind enough to leave it be and let it grow.
I drive by this road everyday to take the kids to school and have never noticed it...haven't noticed it, that is, until I caught a glittery glimpse of red and silver as I drove by and the sun bounced off of this little tree. I then realized that is must be those crafty, clever little teenagers that hang out there in the morning waiting for the school bus; they adopted a Charlie Brown tree!
So of course, I HAD to take a picture, I mean, they saw the beauty and the vision of what this forgotten tree could become and I couldn't help but feel some childlike joy build up in my bosom at the thought of these kids that will more-than-likely do their share of stupid things in their teen years, just like we all have...but the respect and awe I had for them that they would see this tree what it COULD become, and I LOVE that...it has since been adorned with tinsel and a star on top, but I have neglected to take another picture so this will have to do.
At any rate, ENJOY!! And remember to appreciate the beauty that is capable of becoming from inside each one of us when we serve others and see the good in everyone we come across...:)

While the cat's away the mice will play!
So Jason and I went to an ugly sweater party at our neighbor's house, literally right next door. So this made for a convenient and quick walk to get over there...we also decided this would be the perfect opportunity to allow our almost 12-year old and 10 year old the chance to be responsible and look after their younger brothers...I mean, what's the worst that could happen? We're right next door if they need us...everything was fine until we realized that we were missing a child and there seemed to be a moustached imposter to take his place. Hmmm...could this be our sweet little chubby baby? After much poking and prodding, and cheek-kissing we came the the decision, that is was, in fact, chubby baby afterall!! So if you consider our house not burning down a success, then consider this a success :)
daBohn's family pics 2011
So reluctantly I decided to get our family pictures done this year...every year I say the same thing, "Why do we go through the trouble of getting family pictures done? It's way more work and stress than I care to take on!!" And yet the cycle continues, but I'm always grateful to push through the stress and craziness of it all, especially when they turn out somewhat decent, and I'll look back one day and be glad I got them done! Here are just a few of my faves :)
Okay, so I have a LOT of favorites...but that's a good thing, right??
